Endings and honors.

May 16, 2008

I’ll start today with the good stuff.
There is plenty of it.
Hilary will be given two awards on Tuesday
morning at the final award ceremony. She is being
given honors in art and writing. Most improved in each.
HA!!

Monday night is the final, final of all choir performances.
To be held in the old train depot here. It’s a lovely venue,
and each year they have this final performance with a
dessert and coffee menu catered. The graduating choir
members hand down their robes to an underclassmen
they feel deserving of it. The show choir girls also hand
down their dance shoes. (symbolically)

Monday it will be Hilary’s turn. It’s all very touching and
brings tears each time. For all of us. It is an event that
brings back people who have already gone off to start
their lives. We enjoy seeing how they have changed
and grown. I cant wait for it!

Friday is the graduation in Chatt-town.
I cant go there emotionally yet. One week away.
I have invited the choir back here after graduation
for a bit of a party. (remember it will already be about
11 before we get home from the ceremony.)
They do enjoy getting together informally to sing
popular songs. I love giving them my home for that
for obvious reasons! It is heaven really to hear these
young voices so in sync. They are good. I know a bit
about music, and I would say they are very good at
what they do. I am looking forward to it! But if few
are given permission to come, we will make it for
another night. (I hope to catch the action on my flip
video and upload it.)

Hilary was telling me that on their recent trip to Gatlinburg,
the owner of a local restaurant there asked them to sing
for him. They did, to wonderful applause by the patrons.
I was just kicking myself for missing it!

So lets count the electronics that will be coming with us
on vacation this year shall we? Seriously… It’s awful really
what we think we cant live without.
Laptop, (with movies)
Jan’s 35 mm camera
my digital
my flip video
iPod
iPod travel speakers
Jan’s DS Game system
My breathing treatment machine.
Cell phones and chargers.

Pretty much one suitcase just for the above stuff!
And, I’m sure I am missing something!
(oh and batteries for days)
Not to mention too many clothes that we usually
end up not even wearing.
It’s why I make a packing list and start to pile
it all up a month in advance.
——————————-

We had a very nice dinner with C and S last night.
Then we went back to C’s house for birthday cake
and a movie. We watched Juno, which was a cute
little movie. I would like a night when we don’t watch a
movie though. I would love to talk with S and learn who
she is. I like her very much. I would also like to have more
time to talk with C, as this is her first lesbian experience
and she has many worries about her family finding out,
when to tell, or if she should. All that stuff.

We bought S two nice pillar candles and two
candle holders, Tall turned wood pieces we found at
hobby lobby. There are really nice and I think she liked
them. It’s hard to buy for people you have just met.
S moved here from Arizona and has been to the spot
that I am going to try to depict in glass for my new client.
She will come in handy if I have questions later.
This is Oak Creek Canyon, the spot she chose as hers.

I hope I can do such beauty justice in my work.
————————————–

In another blast from the past and on the new
Roberta Flack Hits album I picked up yesterday…
(Because really I just had to)

The closer I get to you.

The kids kind of groaned when I suggested putting it
in the car stereo after we bought it. Just some old lady
singer from the sixties. But once they heard the first
three songs, everyone decided that they needed it for
their iPods. I heard things like, man, this is COOL!
I didn’t know she sang all of those songs! I love this song!
So it is making the rounds to their computers to be
loaded onto them. HA!
———————————-
It’s my weekend with Jan and I haven’t worked at all.
Nothing new to report on the work subject except
for a new piece I started the other day. Titled,
Confidence for now.
I found a perfect piece of glass for the water.
The dress will be detailed and not one piece
of glass in the way the water and sky will be.

That’s all folks…
Have a wonderful day!
Hug somebody and mean it today.
