ahhh Home Again
July 5, 2008We are safely home. Jan drove from just before
Atlanta and all the way home while I slept. It was
an easy drive on my end as well. We put over 1200
miles on my car from here to Daytona and then back
up the coast again to Tybee. On Tybee we rarely drove
as I said, when we did it was always under 35 MPH.
Tybee is strictly a slow town in every way. Getting on
that highway today heading home, doing 70 ish… felt
like flying. We all feel like we have been gone much longer
than a week. That it was too much from home and yet not
enough of everything good.
We came in and the pups were as excited as expected.
Kisses for days. They have finally settled down under our
desks as I type and Jan uploads Tybee shots to her flickr.
We are doing laundry, because everything felt dirty when we
unpacked it. So, most everything we took is being washed.
It wasn’t the cleanest place to stay for four days, but we are
ever grateful for the free lodging all the same. To be steps from
the ocean was just too wonderful to pass up. It was a wonderful
time. A few problems here and there but for the most part we all
lived together well and Jan and I found time for ourselves as well.
More images from Jan for me to Mosaic.

Our home here was tidy enough, but very dirty. After this week
the dust here was screaming at me to do something with it.
In order to live here I asked Jan and Hilary to help me make it
right. They swept and mopped and started the mounds of laundry.
I dusted and set things right. You could tell two men were
living here this week. But, there again I am grateful for the care
they did take to help us with the pets and general house stuff.
So, we are unpacked, sorted the mound of mail and cleaned
the house enough to do for now. Now I feel at home… breathing easy.
Jan is watching a week of her soap now. She has to go back to
work tomorrow. I peeked in the studio a bit ago. It’s all there waiting.
I have ideas forming, many images to draw even more from.
For now, I want to get my laundry finished and relax a bit.
Maybe make some veggies for dinner. Tybee is wonderful but very
much a seafood and fries, chicken and fries kind of place. We are
tired of fried foods and crave veggies. My body is royally pissed
about it actually.
Oh I forgot to say, the fireworks display off the pier last night
was probably the best any of us has ever seen. It went on for
about 25 minutes according to Jan. If you ever get the chance,
be there for it. But plan on bumper to bumper traffic out to the island.
Thank goodness we didn’t have to drive in for it! Those poor people!
Zoe is at my heels waiting for my lap again.
Occasionally moaning sorrowfully at me, seemingly saying
“why did you go away so long.” She is such a vocal dog.
Emotional, loving, often too much. But that is a part of her charm.
She is me.
I have missed music… just saying.
There wasn’t nearly enough of it this week.

Welcome Back!
Ahhh the dreaded unpacking & clean up!
Yet having had a great time makes it all worth while. LOL Oh yeah that sounds so much better Shaney!
Glad you had a nice trip Annie & Jan!
Welcome back! I’m glad you all made it back safely and have started to settle in.
SO happy you had a great time!!!
Welcome home all. Sounds like it was relaxing time.
I empathize with the dog issue. Duppy is so attached to me I can’t even bear to think of being away for too long. At least not all of us at the same time.
Miss Jan — I can’t tell you how MOVED I am by these two photos I see here. The emotion they both stir!
Seriously, I want to talk with you about producing a beautiful note card set — 4 designs, professionally done with envelopes, beautiful ribbon packaging, etc.
I did them with some of my portrait work, specifically Bette Davis back in 1991, and I completely sold out. I use a fantastic, professional printing house here in CT.
However, these photos on elegant, heavy weight, gloss stock note cards would sell like crazy. So many love beach themes. I’d use them for beautiful thank you cards.
I’m going to go to your Flicker site and see the rest. Seriously, let’s talk. You really have an artist’s eye there, my dear! Very, very talented!
Blessings to all, Steve
You know, Steve is right. Some of those pictures are truly breath-taking. There’s no reason you couldn’t have some sort of cards printed using those photos. There’s also no reason that notecards wouldn’t do well with some unique shots of your mosaic work, Annie. I think there are a lot possibilites there between the two of you.
Hey, the card idea is a great one! I would be interested in a mosaic of some sort of beachy scene, but my budget doesn’t allow much room for art (unfortunately). But I send cards all the time.
Good to hear that you are all home safe and sound!
glad your home safe and sound…we leave thursday for a few days of camping, then we are home til the 20th (day after Ashleys birthday) for aweek of fun on the road with my baby girl…
The pictures are amazing…so beautiful, I can’t wait to see the wonder and beauty jan caught on camera appear in mosaics
ohhh and we added a new family member to our household
I posted his pics on my blog lol…the dogs love him so much its so cute
dang Carie I can rarely get your comments
to open for me! I am not sure why that is.
The new baby is so adorable! Love that orange
pattern on her face! So glad Ash is the mommy!!
Thanks all for the encouragement for Jan.
She second guesses herself.
She has been saying that she has no creativity for so long.
She must be helped to see that often that “eye” is there,
just waiting to be let loose. To see things in a different way.
I’m telling you, the note cards would be a fantastic idea. It would encourage Jan, bring in some extra funds and she’ll really start to have a following. Who knows: framed prints maybe down the road?? I did it. I sold 8×10’s matted for $20.00 each.
I’d be willing to help (”will work for note cards”!) to get the “fire” under Jan…
The company I would suggest is called 4over4.com online. This is NOT the one I used in Connecticut, but for another printing project.
I’d help with the actual layouts, sizes, etc., and the art files are sent online to them. A week or two later, she’ll have her own little side business going.
You can order wholesale gift card boxes online at a specialty box company, and then go to AC Moore or Michael’s and purchase bulk ribbon.
Sell them in a set of 20 note cards (4 designs, 5 note cards of each) and envelopes, in a box with a beautiful ribbon. Think of a “company name” and Jan’s signature could be on the back of each card with a copyright notice, and a small bit about the photo.
I can see it already! I promise, they’d be a HIT!! (This is too exciting!!)
